How do i make an old computer like new?

it's a decent computer... i just received it from a friend and it has a lot of software on there that I don't need. is there anyway i can delete it all... format it or something but still keep windows on there along with the antivirus software? please help!

You can begin removing the programs by going to the Control Panel and select "Add and Remove Programs" Work your way down the list and remove the programs that you don't want.

I hope that the computer had Windows XP preinstalled. If it did have it preinstalled, you can make a free Windows XP disc and do a repair or a clean install. If Windows XP came preinstalled, go here to make the Windows XP CD:

Well there are two ways to go about it.

The first is if you have a copy of windows you can reformat the harddrive and then reinstall windows.

The second is you can go in the control panel and use Add/Remove Programs to get rid of the software you don't want. Then go to the Start%26gt;All Programs%26gt;Accessories%26gt;System Tools%26gt;Disk Cleanup. Run that utility, it pretty much goes by itself. Then goto the same spot where Disk Cleanup was and choose Disk Defragmenter. When the screen comes up choose defrag. This will run for quite some time. After that it sould run pretty well and be like new.
