What is the light-weight and most effective antivirus software? Norton is dangerous and BitDefender

I would suggest Avast. Unlick BitDefender and others it is free and comes complete with memory scanning, on access scanning, virus shield, heuristic scanning, and many more features than you would otherwise have to pay for with most other virus scanners (since other freeware scanners disable such features in their free edition). It is the only free one i have found that provides such protection for you.

I have used it for some time now and i am very fussy about my virus scanner. I do not like ones that annoy you with popups every 5 seconds, i like ones that auto update, i like ones that do not require you to restart your computer after each update, and i like ones that actually catch viruses! Unlike some i have tried in the past (mentioning no names).

I would not recommend downloading from download.com in regards to virus scanners since they are out of date in a few days! (Although you could just run the AVG update after it has installed).
