Assuming you are running XP, and this is the little shield in the task bar.

There are a couple, the best free one, in my opinion, is AVG, do a search for it and download the free hom edition.

virus proctect for free avg 7.5 free personal edition at www.grissoft.com download install and then update

Next you'll need anti spyware...the best free one I've found is spybot search and destroy found at www.spybot.com or put spybot search and destroy in a search engine...download install, update

Then you'll need free adware remover...SE Personal Free edition is my favorite at www.lavasoft.com download, install update then run AVG first then the adware and spyware...
