How to remove Spyware not cleaned by antivirus software?

Can anyone help?

I started by trying to download a codec for media player, clicked on the run button and Trend Micro started going nuts. So I cancelled everything but too late. So now I have this little shield that comes up indicating a system alert that tells me I have a number of spyware applications impacting the performance. To remove the unwanted spyware, it instructs me to click on the icon to download an up-to-date anti-spyware solution.

I already have Trend Micro so did a complete scan, then a spyware scan which turned the computer off and now it won鈥檛 start unless in safe mode. In safe mode I went to the Trend Micro site and downloaded Housecall Online and did a scan as well. It told me every thing was clean, yet the computer still won鈥檛 start!

So, I鈥檓 all out of ideas for what to do next to fix it, and still have a computer that won鈥檛 start up. Any ideas would be great.

A firewall is a program that sits in between you and the internet, it analyses incoming and outgoing traffic to try to intercept threats to your security. It's mainly looking for hacking attempts. As long as your internet connection is open its like an open door to hackers. A good firewall will make your pc invisible to most hackers. If they can't see you they can't break in.

Its not foolproof, so an anti virus, an anti trojan, an anti adware and an anti spyware are your next line of defence. They scan everything on your system looking for malware ( malicious software) that is installed or running.

Some security programs have 'real time' scanning so also watch for changes as they happen, like a firewall does.

You need a number of different security programs to deal woth different problems. Here are some good freeware ones.

Probably. If you get error messages from the antivirus software then something is probably wrong. Someone might have been up to no good, but it's also possible for part of the hard drive to go bad, and the antivirus software may be stored in that area.

If the antivirus software won't run, try booting from something like an antivirus recovery disc (perhaps the Norton Internet Security CD, for example), and if nothing seems to be wrong after a scan for viruses, try re-installing the antivirus program.

And it probably wouldn't hurt to use a disk-scanning utility to make sure there are no corrupt sectors or clusters on the hard drive. A quick scan would be better than nothing, but a surface scan would be even better, but it may take a very long time.

I'm more familiar with Norton Systemworks than I am the other utility suites, but it seems reasonable that there are other good programs out there.

It depends on who you are. AVG Free is 100% free for home use. If you use it in your office, then you have to pay for it - it is NOT FREE FOR OFFICE USE.

But like all anti-viruses, it is up to you to get the updates, to check the status and run full scans regularly.

The free versions of Ad-aware and SpyBot Search %26 Destroy are great too, at no cost. Again, check the status, get updates and run full scans. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search %26 Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
